Playseats Evolution Gaming Seat (Black with Silver) Immediately

I ordered two of these chairs (black) to use with Logitech wheels and pedals, and Gran Turismo 4/5. I expected flimsy wobbly stuff, but was surprised when I opened the box to find them heavy duty, thick metal, and very solid overall. Some parts are downright industrial! Fit and finish was excellent, all the parts were there, and everything fit together as planned.

The negatives are small: In packaging the units, one of the tubes is on the seat cushion, and leaves a 3"x3" 'dimple' in the seat cushion which will pop out over time. The second complaint is the screw-knobs that tighten down the adjustable sliders for pedals and steering column. These screws tighten down directly onto the metal tubes that go inside, and will bend and dimple and scratch them. Shame on Playseats for not coming up with a better way. To avoid this, I got some nylon screws that would fit down inside the screw hole that the adjustment knobs went into. I cut a 1/8" piece off for each of the holes and put it in and let it fall to the bottom of the hole before inserting the metal screw from Playseats on top of it. Then I just tightened the Playseats knob down and the little nylon button serves as a buffer between the metal screw and the inner tube. Mine stay tight and do not scratch the paint or gouge out the metal. You may even find that a nylon screw can be used instead of the metal one, your choice. It does not take a lot of pressure to keep the parts in place, so that might work too.

Back to the positives, the seats are durable, and well upholstered, as good as most car seats! They fit my ample frame as well as my 13 year old 'model' daughter, and during driving, I find the wheels to be very stable while racing, and hard and fast turns are very good, almost no wobble of the steering post and platform. Once I got GT dialed in with the right wheel settings, driving and racing was virtually real, and I mean it!

Overall, it's a 4/5 rating because of the irresponsible metal on metal adjustments. That's the only real embarrassment Playseats is bringing on itself, and it's easily rectified. To Playseats, I recommend you abandon the screws in favor of a pressure latch. My daughter cannot turn the knobs to adjust the seat once they are tightened, but I can do it easily. Since these are used mostly by younger folks, some consideration should be given to a more friendly adjustment mechanism.

Get them, they are worth the money. The nylon screws are available at Lowes for $0.50
